“That I refuse to call the policemen’s attention to the fact that we have been overloaded in the matatu, and that the seatbelts do not work; and that even when I do so, I know that nothing will come of it; that I did not vote in the last election, and do nothing but moan about our economy, and lack the sense of ownership to report to the authorities the broken pipe in my estate. Change is a must; and a must come.”
These are the words of Danne Ace`da, popularly known as Chizi, an artist who feels strongly about becoming the change he wants to see. Knowing the power of one; and knowing the power of a people united by a common cause, he has decided to lend his voice to a socio-political project he believes will engender this change. Dubbed Café Mia Moja, this will be a series of concerts by Chizi and the Black Band, as well as a small circle of artistes who are driven by personal principles to change society, the country and the continent through music. Each concert will have a theme based on current pertinent issues, and guests will be invited to come and pass their message to the audience. The first concert, whose theme is African Renaissance, will be held on Wednesday the 27th of September at the Memorial Park. Initially tickets were only available by email order, but are now also available at the gate. Tickets cost 600 bob, however one ticket admits two (effectively reducing the cost of the event to three hundred per head). Songstress Kiki will curtain raise, as will Grace Muna and 2005’s Kipawa talent search winner Doris Anyango.
The aims and objectives of Café Mia Moja are: • Challenging young Christians to walk the talk • Encouraging patriotism • Motivating this generation to work harder for socio-economic change in Kenya and Africa Building an army of 1 million Kenyans sold out to the vision of a better Kenya and a better Africa, and that are willing to step out and make that change The music in these concerts will be punctuated by various successful young professionals who will take time to briefly share their views on various ongoing social, political and economic issues. Refreshments will be served after the concerts. If you love music punctuated by socio-conscious themes, then you can not afford to miss these shows. These are some of the accolades fellow artists have given to Chizi; ‘The biggest star out of Kijiji records yet…the sky is the limit’ Kanjii Mbugua ‘A great songwriter, with a distinct sound who I hope to work with a lot more in the future’ Eric Wainaina ‘He has done a great job with the album. I absolutely love the cover.’ Achieng’ Abura ‘There’s apart of the song Songa that just blows me away…’ Steve Ominde Oh man, the song Sana Sana is the one for me…’ Kevin Wyre
