After the success of his last record System Ya Kapungala, that won him a bagful of accolades including multiple Groove Awards, the self-styled "king of kapungala" Daddy Owen is getting set for the release of his new record, Utamu Wa Maisha this Jamhuri Day. Backed by a whole bunch of stellar acts including Juliani, Emmy Kosgei, Jimmie Gait and others, the launch will be held at the KICC Plenary on the afternoon of December 12 and will see Owen spend about two hours on stage on a mishmash of jams from his hits and the new record.
Owen was originally set to do a CD and DVD launch, but unconfirmed reports have it that the DVD launch was postponed to March to allow for Mary Mary to join the gig, hence the CD only launch. This is Owen's junior album, and features the recently released lead single, Dusta, in which he features an upcoming act, Dennis. Listen to 'Dusta' here... Dasta-Daddy Owen ft Dennis
Owen says that this album is a step-up from his previous record, and he hopes to cement his place as a musical role model with the record. He asserts that the title is about "all about the potential that lies within all of us, and walking with the knowledge that no matter how bad today has been, tomorrow will be better."
