June 18, NPC Karen - If life is one big party, then Spafest is one big festivity. An event that captures wit, dance and incredible ingenuity, it is always a night to remember. The 2010 Finals were no different, with fourteen teams fighting for glory, admiration and of course cash; the highest ever, it was bound to be a clash where only diligence and incredible creativity would separate the boys from the men; wheat from chaff.
Ignitaz, who have previously been Spa Kings for two years running, were nowhere to be seen and it was left to the old dogs and a few newcomers, to fight for the spoils. If Ignitaz presence made the competition stiff, then their absence made it even fierce.
From the Professional Category that included Saintz 1, Impact, DUSH, ICED, Spartanz, Incense B and G-Stomaz, it was battle royale as all fought for the top prize that was two hundred thousand shillings.
The Upcoming Category, where 80k was up for grabs featured Alabaster, Saintz 2, Incense A, Detour, Undignified, FGT and C4C. Here too, the story was no different as teams (figuratively speaking) punched, kicked and bit on each other in the different categories that challenged teams to sparkle in Themed, Choreographed and Own Dances. And of course the humorous advertisements that left many in stitches.
The event was not all dances as Eko Dydda, Daddy Owen, Allan Aaron and MC Dice threw in great performances during the interludes as did Suz-eye and The Minister. The DJs were not lacking either with perennial turn-tablists K-Krew present in full force, tagging with MC Alemba to keep the crown entertained.
And when the moment to discover the new kings of Spa came, new names were churned out of the winners’ machine. ICED trounced their rivals carrying, the crown and the cash; dividing the spoils with G-Stomaz who came a distant second in the Professional Category. The Upcoming Category saw C4C win, with Detour coming in second position.
Yet again, Spafest had managed to discover fresh talent, promote new acts and give an enthralled, thirsty crowd a night full of fun, laughter and entertainment. As the title holders celebrate their new status, it goes without saying that every participant that got to the finals was a winner; not necessarily in recognition, but in their presence there.
