May 22, Memorial Park – With every new edition of Mad Love Lounge, the monthly urban gig cements its place as one of Nairobi’s must-attend Gospel events. The May edition was no exception, as hundreds turned up for the afternoon that included a special treat – the launch of the Mad Love Mixtape Volume 2. Dubbed Open Heaven, the gig saw an enjoyable mixture of outstanding performances of rap, dance, open mic, and beat boxing. Mad Love Lounge Frontman Holy Dave With MC DICE|PHOTO|MWAFRIKA.COM
It was the first time content in the album was officially being heard and therefore a lot of pieces were new to the audience, but this did not stop many from catching a word or two, hence singing along. The gig’s opening act was a seven year old boy from the group Mfalme, who wowed many with his smooth flow. From there, it was all systems go as artist to artist, back to back, sung, rapped, spoke or danced. Among the performances, Baba Yuko, by H3, Jefro and Eko Dydda proved to be quite a banger [CLICK HERE to download Baba Yuko], as was Bring The Truth Back by Jaxo and Xpo. Other jams performed included Score by Number 8, Nasonga Mbele by Kamlesh, Press On by Holy Dave and Izzo and Round These by Dangee, Kelele Takatifu and Leon. Others were Hetlar Sketlar by MC Mhubiri, Let it Rain by Rigga, Cant Stop by Mr T and Wrecking by AB.
The afternoon’s programme was steered by DJ Kandee at first, before she handed it over to the comical Mr T. and Dice who looped till the show’s end. On the decks were Djs Shock, Octave and GG. In all, it was a well spent afternoon of good music and great fun, and Mad Love once again brought to the attention of Nairobi's hip-hop lovers the latest talent on the Gospel scene!
