Dance group Saints is starting off the year in quite an interesting fashion, with their first 2010 gig being an 'award show'. The Saints of the Year Awards (SOYA) is meant to acknowledge and appreciate people who have been instrumental in their ministry, and goes down on 6th March at their Kahawa West Deliverance church.

For all classical music lover's who have just completed their KCSE, The Kenya Conservatoire of Muisc is offering music scholarships in piano, singing, and violin. Auditions and interviews will be conducted by the director of the conservatoire on Thursday the 4th of March at the Go down Arts centre from 10am. March 5 and 6 will see K-Krew’s finest, including Rock of Ages, Ekko D?da, Eunice Njeri, Zidi The Band, Hey-Z and many others team up for an all night monster party as part of the Campus Tour Series. Also featuring all of K-Krew’s DJs, the event goes down at the Kenyatta University.

Eunice Njeri has released her latest album, Wimbo Wangu. The record, which features production from the likes of RKay, Chris Adwar and Billy Frank, was released at the beginning of the year and is available in shops locally. Eunice however says that she is preparing an official launch for the album at a date to be communicated later.

Pop outfit Chit Chat have released the video to their sophomore single, I La La La Like It, this time official and edited. The raw version had been leaked to media houses late 2009, but the Kijiji Records artistes opted to edit and re-release it. The video is shot by Sakata Media, who also hemmed their debut, Buzzin.

Kijiji Records artist Astar continues to raise the bar on the Gospel scene in Kenya with his latest project, dubbed 'Cleaning the Airwaves'. The project will see Astar give free music downloads throughout the first week of February through his Facebook page - including his entire debut album, The Light.

After more than a year's hiatus, Chizi's brand gig, Cafe Mia Moja makes a comeback this month at the Rafikiz Lounge on Langata Road. The popular afro-fusion act will be performing at the lounge every Thursday evening from 4th of February, alongside his newly branded Wananchi band.

Gospel ragga artist Stichie is set to perform in Nairobi this February. Best known for his hit songs Gospel Reggae and Fast & Pray, Stichie will reportedly be in the country on February 7 for an afternoon performance at the St. Andrew's Hall on University Way. The gig is being organized by Spinrej DJs, Gospoepic & Pambazuka.

The biggest annual new year's eve party, Totally Sold Out, returns for its fifth edition. Slated for the Nairobi Chapel grounds, the party is set to feature three jamming arenas. Whereas Arena 1 will feature a live concert featuring the likes of M.O.G, Juliani, Rufftone, Jemimah Thiong'o and others, arena 3 will feature various DJs at Club Xpressions. Interestingly, this year sees a third arena dedicated to over 25's, and features live music from afro artists such as Kanjii, Sara mitaru, Webi, Atemi, Chris Bittok and others.

Four episodes of spoken word poetry featuring some of the city's top poets, including Number 8 and Eko Dydda, are to be screened on NTV between the 24th and 27th of December. Reminding us that Christmas is all about Jesus, the episodes are scheduled for 4:30pm on the 24th and 25th, 6:30pm on the 26th and 1:30pm on the 27th.

Singer Atemi and the Villagers Band team up on the 27th of December to present a special holiday musical experience. Set for Club Galileo, the event will also see The Villagers release their "Nofork Hotel" debut album. The event kicks off at 7pm.

Groove Award winner Hey-Z and his System Rave unit are planning a Christmas eve party this time round, to be held at the Nairobi Cinema. Going all night of the 24th, the gig will feature performances from the likes of Jimmi Gait, Eko Dydda, Wazee Wetu as well as Hey-Z. Ignitaz & Allan Aaron are also set to make the cast, with entrance only 100 bob.

2008 Talentmania Award winner Gerriey Wainaina is getting ready to launch his debut album. Titled 'Kabambe', the six-track album will be launched on December 13 at St Andrews. Gerriey will be backed by his Kalesa Entertainment outfit, as well as a plethora of acts including Mbuvi, Eko Dydda, Hellen Mtawali and Kambua.

Crunk-head Holy Dave has finally finished work on his debut album, after a couple of false starts that made him push its original launch date twice. Now, Holy is planning an exclusive listening party for December 6th at the Kula Corner in Hurlingham. The party will feature special performances by Holy Dave as well as his documentary, "On Top of My Game". HD also intimates that there will be special guests at the event. Veteran Gospel act Wangeci Mbogo is getting ready a Christmas VCD to be released in December. Titled 'Christmas Imefika', the VCD will feature the already released and well received single of the same title. In other news, Wangeci picked up yet another Australian award, this time in the "Australian Independent Music Video Awards" in the category of "International Independent Music Video of the Year". The award was for her "Apewe Sifa" video.

 
Kanjii, Aaron To Feature At Kinanda Festival | Print |  E-mail
Kanjii Mbugua and jazz keyboardist Aaron Rimbui will be among the artists perfroming at this year's Nairobi Kinanda Festival. The annual event is a celebration of artistic talent, featuring performances in music, dance, creative writing, spoken word and film. This year's festival is being headlined by the platinum-selling and world acclaimed South African band, Freshly Ground. The event goes down on 12th December at the Uhuru Gardens.
