“I believe God wants to start shifting the wealth of this world into the hands of Christians, who can plant it back into his kingdom”.
..
“God wants us to be financially secure”
..
“The purpose of tithing is to secure not the tithe but the tither, not the gift but the giver, not your money but you for God.”
..
These are the kind of thoughts brandished around a lot of our churches these days. And we’re not talking words from velvet-clad silky-smooth hit-and-run televangelists pushing a warped prosperity Gospel. Nope! We’re talking mainstream everyday churches whose leaders are beginning to dig deep into the vault of Scripture. Leaders who are beginning to look at society today and say “hang on a minute, does God want to say something to our people about their resources?”

Would this next statement surprise you – Jesus spoke more about money than he did about anything else? It surprises many, but it is true!

You would think that Jesus would spend his few days on the earth speaking of Heaven and Hell and on issues of faith – especially since His job was mainly about bringing salvation and restoring a broken relationship between God and man. Yet look at him speaking of money when he talks of paying tax and giving to Caesar what is Caesar’s, or when he tells a rich young ruler to sell all his belongings. What when he quips that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich person to enter Heaven. What of his numerous stories about coins, pearls, treasure fields and the like.

Could it be possible that he realized that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt. 6:21)?

Great reformer Martin Luther put it well:

“There are three conversions necessary: the conversion of the heart, mind, and the purse.”

:: INTRODUCING … MwafrikaMoney
It is with this in mind that we introduce our upcoming section… MwafrikaMoney

MwafrikaMoney is a new section that we will be developing a day at a time, with an aim to help us all learn some useful stewardship principles that can guide our lives. Kicking it off will be a number of pieces that will form our “Taming Your Wallet” series.

MwafrikaMoney will be about one very major thing, and that is…stewardship. The key question it will try address is - Does the Bible have anything meaningful to say about how we handle the little resources that we may have? Stewardship, in the Mwafrika context, will be:

>> Good Money Management
Does money seem to slip out of your hands faster than it came in? If so, why do you think that happens? And do you think Scripture has anything to say about us being careful not to squander our resources?

>> Investing
Do we work for our money, or does our money work for us? Ever hear of a story Jesus told about three workers who were given gold coins by their master? Two invested their money and grew it. Why was the master upset with the third who did not put his money to use? Is our master upset with some of us today for doing the same thing?

>> Giving
Is it easier to want to receive than it is to give? Are we supposed to give what is called tithe? Do we do it? Why would a God who owns everything command people to give?

These are but a few of the issues that, hopefully, together we can talk about more. We at Mwafrika.com do not have the answers to many of these issues, we admit it. We will be turning to many financial and spiritual leaders to help us illuminate this important area, and debunk some of the myths we have about money.

Stay tuned for our first piece …Taming Your Wallet.

We also look forward to a lot of meaningful interactions together.
