Armed with passion, focus and a healthy dose of self-confidence, hip-hop artist Hey-z believes his time has come - he's ready to take Nairobi by storm. After stirring up quite a bit of buzz in his hometown Thika, Hey-z (real names Daniel Heho) is shifting base to the city. Not that he’s a complete stranger to the scene – fans already know him for the hit single Mazeh and the Ennovator-produced Wampenda. By way of introduction, we're giving you a chance to download those two jams right here! :: To download Mazeh, CLICK HERE :: To download Wampenda, CLICK HERE The first born in a family of five, Hey-z discovered his musical leanings while still in primary school. All through high school, he would pick up accolades from various competitions, especially for own compositions. School gigs gave him his first opportunities to perform in public, and he used them well, quickly gaining a reputation as an entertainer. Hey-z carried this into Thika after high school, regularly performing in clubs and gigs. With this came what he describes as a ‘worldly lifestyle’ which was oddly out of place in his Christian family. Things turned around for him in 2005 when he decided to follow Christ. Recalls Hey-z: “…I didn’t like the way I was living and the way my ‘boys’ were living. I wanted to do something right; I’ve always wanted to be a success, someone people can look up to. I knew I could only achieve that with God…” From then on, his efforts were redirected to packaging his Gospel message for the same audiences he had entertained. His recording journey started in 2006, when Mazeh was produced by Reality G. Wampenda and Preach The Gospel followed in January 2007, both produced by hit-maker Tim “Ennovator” Rimbui. Three more tracks wrapped up the six that made it onto his EP, released in mid-2007. Getting ready for the next level of his career, Hey-z is already working on new tracks for his debut album, most of them crunk-laced. Shifting base is also part of this plan, following and inspired by the success of other Thika artists such as Noelle, Caro Nice and Suzzanne. He believes that his calling lies with school outreaches, and to this end, is part of FORTY Ministries. When he’s not doing music, Hey-z is into graphic design, web development and motivational speaking. At only twenty-one, Hey-z seems to have his hands full, and is enjoying every moment of it. And with his tenacity, he may yet succeed in making a splash on Nairobi’s ever-growing Gospel scene.

Romans 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present. nor things to come, nor anything else, in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
