SK Blue just doesn’t quit. Not content with sporting a new ‘dread-less’ look, a fresh afro sound, and a regular gig that ‘s off the chains, he’s flipping the script one more time. is Kitenge Festival, held bi-monthly at the Memorial Park, is already becoming a staple on the local entertainment calendar, drawing significant crowds and considerable media interest. One would think he’d be comfortable with that. Nope! He’s flipping the script one more time. He’s taking Kitenge to a whole new level.
Enter Kitenge Campus Carnival.
 The Kitenge Campus Carnival is a new hybrid event that is intended to run from campus to campus with a mission to innovatively ‘celebrate African trade and culture’. A pioneering cultural extravaganza, the carnival is an expression of afro culture through live music, dance, poetry, and skits (performing arts), and aims to educate, entertain and expose the synchrony of different cultures through performing arts. It will also features a trade exhibition – a platform set to launch and expose young and established entrepreneurs whose service and products run incorporate an indigenous theme i.e. curios, paintings, fabrics, jewelry etc.
The inaugural Kitenge Campus Carnival runs this Friday, the 9th of May 2008 in the heart University of Nairobi’s Main Campus, at Ufungamano House. It will be a free event and will feature the Kitenge Band, Sarah Gakinya, Koko Band as well as SK Blue himself. There will also be a blood drive by Hope Worldwide, a moonlight VCT, as well as support from I Choose Life (ICL) and WOSWA (Women’s Student Welfare Association).
