When it comes to musical success, the die is more often than not cast at the producer’s desk. Production separates the hits from the normal, and every musician worth his salt ought to know all there is to know about production, and how it affects their career. That’s precisely the reason why anyone involved in music ought to attend the Producer’s Picks edition of the Artists Breakfast on July 12th. For the first time ever, a forum is being provided for local artists, musicians, worship leaders, and instrumentalists to hear from some of the country’s best producers – Kijiji front-man Kanjii Mbugua, VUC’s Chris Adwar and Ben “Gittx” Gitau as well as Hip Hope producer David “Blackman” Muthami, Sakata Music’s Mike Sakata and Soulchild Records’ Steve Ominde will grace the breakfast, to be held at Pneuma Church off Ngong Road (See Map below).
The session, to be moderated by Mwafrika.com’s David Kuria and Orange Company’s Kavutha Mwanzia, is set to kick off at 9 am. From what to look for in a producer, how to find the right one and even the much talked about production costs, the producers will be tackling all of these issues and more. Wondering which producer is good in which genre, want to ask questions about the producer’s role in selling your music; this is certainly the platform for it.
Mrs. Kilonzo, co-convener of the Artists Breakfast forum, points out the glaring importance of the producers in any artist’s career: “Producers are the key to any music you may want to do. It’s important for us to find out why they’re important, and why you can’t just go ahead and do your own music. If we’re talking about raising the bar of excellence (in the local music industry), then we must be able to have forums like this – that’s what the Artists Breakfast is all about”
