Ng'ash Flies Solo | Print |  E-mail

Word around town had it that one of the members of Kisima nominees FATMOD split from the group. Well, Mwafrika.com recently caught up with Ng’ash (aka Ngashville - real name Anthony Ng’ang’a), who was quick to dispel that rumor. He and Fatmod are still very much together. He may be working on releasing his solo record, which he tells us about in detail, but he knows where his loyalties lie.

As part of this exclusive, Ng’ash also provides us with a download of his first single, BADILISHA. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD .

So we've heard that Ngash is coming out as a solo artist? What's the deal there? Is that true?
Yeah! It’s been a long time coming and I am finally doing my first solo project. As you know, I’ve been part of a group (FATMOD) for a long while, and now I feel its time for me to spread my wings.

So what’s going on with the group FATMOD, has the group split up? What's going on there?
FATMOD is still very much together. What they are right there are my boys from way back, and there is no way we are going to break up. Yaani, the bond is just too tight. These are the guys who, no matter what, they were, have been and are still there for me. You know even if we weren't singing anymore there would still be FATMOD. We’re just that tight. As for them backing me up in my album you’ll definitely here them on a couple of songs.

So why do a solo album now? What inspired you?
Well I think I’m at a place where I feel I have been through so much in my Christian walk that I want to share it with the world. Share my ups and downs, my heartbreaks, my struggles and how I have overcome them. Most importantly I want to share about my relationship with the Almighty.

OK, that’s cool. So why don’t you tell us a little about your album
Well, how can I put it? The album is just AWESOME!! It is diverse in a very special way. This time you can expect Ngashville as you know me from FATMOD. But you’ll also see a part of me that people do not know about.

So who have you worked with on this “awesome” album?
Let me tell you about the producers so you can see how diverse it is. I have worked with some established producers, but also with some unknowns. I have the ‘sound man’ himself Gittx on it. I have my boy Bruno as well – he’s the one who produced the jam Wernono Anthem. There’s also Steve Ominde, Jesse of Ketebul and more big names. And of course there’s some tracks from the Wernono stable (Alvo,Lee) and also a track I did myself.

Any collaborations?
On this one I have the cream de la crème of the Gospel industry. I have Ken of Gospel Fathers and Dunco of Chiefs on the lead single. As for other collabos, let’s not even go into that. I want it to be the kind of surprise that will shock you big time. It’ll be Ng’ash featuting…

Speaking of your first single, it’s called BADILISHA, and its certifiably scorching hot. Tell us about that?
Thanks man. Well, it’s the first song I've done for the album and I did it with the ‘Sound Man’ himself (kind of a nickname I have for Gittx). It’s the one that features Dunco (Chiefs) and Ken (Gospel Fathers). The funny thing about it is that we did this joint in only one day. Everything from producing the track to song-writing it, laying it down and everything else. When we finished I knew instantly that this was going to be my first single. I was going for a party feel on it - a song u can groove to, one that’s extremely easy to remember and something very catchy. You can hum it anywhere, whether while waiting for a jav, while at work, ukiwa bafu, you know, anywhere.

So I know Mwafrika.com has an exclusive download, but when do you plan to release "Badilisha" on radio, and is there a video for it?
Currently I’m looking at first week of August for the radio single. As for the video its also going to be dropping soon.

Any other singles?
I’m thinking of at least one more single with a video before I drop the album.

We've noticed you've worked with Dunco of Chiefs and Wernono. What's your take on Wernono and what's your connection with them?
First let me say working with Dunco is amazing. That guy is a genius; he’s the most creative dude I know. In the studio he's on a level of his own right now he's on high demand. Now back to your question. Wernono Crew is a movement; a clique; a family of ten men planting seeds everywhere we’re sent. Basically we’re guys from the same church who have the same vision and share a common goal for souls. We build each other in Christ. As far as Wernono goes, I’m telling you now…watch this space!

Looking ahead, who are some of the other artists / producers you would like to work with in future?
For producers, I think I would like to work with R-Kay, Gideon Kimanzi and Ogopa DJs for sure. As for artists, I’m thinking the likes of Eunice Njeri, new artist Haimie and Daddy Owen, plus a few more surprises.

So we understand you're currently out of the country in Switzerland. Is it business or pleasure, and what are you up to?
Both business and pleasure. I’m working on starting an organization (details later), but I’m also here to network with some people and get some useful info. Although I have to say the summer sun is good. I’m definitely enjoying it.

Of course there are lady fans who are interested in knowing your status? Are you...ahem…spoken for?
That’s too funny. (I don’t think there are), but I’m single....

Any final words you would like to leave with your fans out there?
I've learnt that the biggest hindrance to one making it in life is often themselves. I say keep trying until all that you have left is trying some more. God sees that and honors that.
Apart from that all I can leave you with is one of my verses of the year. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12. I love you all and keep the faith. Cheers.

“Make it your life ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependant on anybody”
