Kevin is without a doubt one of the pre-eminent DJs in the country. He started off humbly just a few years ago, with no equipment to call his own, yet today is regarded as amongst the more astute entertainers and businessmen in his field.

Not only has he worked in a number of local media houses, he has established his own successful entertainment company, pioneered a whole array of Christian entertainment events, and gone on to promote positivism and wholesome fun amongst Kenya's youth, even venturing into youth abstinence campaigns.

Let's sample these achievements in a little more detail.

Early in his entertainment career, DJ Kev, as he is more affectionately referred to, had the opportunity to work with Homeboyz Entertainment, one of Kenya 's larger secular entertainment and DJ-ing set-ups. Having meticulously and painstakingly studied his craft, probably better than any of his industry peers, he approached Homeboyz looking to be part of the DJ-ing crew. What he was offered was far more than he bargained for.

In addition to taking him on as a DJ, where he would open up many of their gigs with a gospel set, Homeboyz offered him the opportunity to help them establish the Homeboyz DJ Academy. DJ Kev spelled out the Academy's course curriculum for both the foundation and advanced classes, and served as the chief lecturer for 18 months. Long after he left, the Academy is still East Africa's premier destination for up and coming DJs seeking to develop their craft.

His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own outfit, Mo Sound Entertainment. This is his umbrella group through which he organizes events. His mission for this venture is crystal clear in his mind:

  • Enhancing the development of Gospel and contemporary music
  • Discovering and utilizing talent in the industry
  • Participating in the abstinence campaign in the fight against HIV/AIDS
  • Wholesome entertainment through Gospel music

One of the events his entertainment company is credited with includes the JC's Groove. This is a monthly event that brings together Nairobi 's youth to enjoy a time of wholesome gospel music, dance and ministry from an array of youth pastors. This event has been around for a number of years, and has been able to assist in the work of restoring young people from the effects of a destructive lifestyle of revelry and substance abuse, and providing a healthy alternative that promotes godliness.

Mo Sound entertainment also handles the first and only recognized Gospel Music Awards ceremony in Kenya , the Groove Awards. These awards have given such luminaries as Roughtone, Henrie Mutuku and Esther Wahome more recognition not only amongst the youth, but also with local an international media. At the same time, up and coming artists the like of Neema, Fatmode and Jaal are given the platform they need to further their careers. Media houses and presenters partnering in the effort of furthering Gospel music also receive honorable mention.

Other events that can be credited to DJ Kev include Speed Party and 1:10 Fingers. The former is an end year party targeting the youth. Last year alone, this event attracted slightly over 3,000 eager young people looking for good clean fun. The latter really is in the same vein as his earlier work with the DJ Academy. It is a competition that targets young Christian DJs and gives them the forum they need to exercise and grow their talent. The contest victor goes on to win the ultimate prize, a full scholarship to the DJ Academy where their skill can be further honed.

All this and much more from a young man who is the first to admit that just a few years ago, he was hopelessly lost in a world of immorality and substance abuse. Today he uses his immense talents and likeable personality for the advancement of the Gospel.

He has developed an immense passion for reaching out to the youth of the nation and spreading the Word of God through gospel music.

His love for God and testimony of where God has brought him from and where is taking him to, leaves no doubt that he will see even more turn their backs on a lifestyle going nowhere and instead choose to focus on living their lives for Christ.
