All Night Dancing At K-Rave | Print |  E-mail

November 28, The Zone - Let’s start by saying that if you missed the K-Rave, little can be done to recap it for you. This is one of those gigs that you just had to have been there! Nevertheless, we’ll give it a trial. The place was The Zone, formerly called The Pavement, and the Kubamba Krew turned up with the fervor of DJs long denied the turn-tables. The crowd, most of them just brushing 19, looked like they had been waiting for a rave for a long, long time.

The resultant effect was that while other gigs start slow and pick up, the K-Rave was up from the first scratch by K-Krew affiliate DJ Sanch. The dance-floor continued to fill up (and to expand) as the night went on and the DJs rotated. Johnny Celeb was hot on local, serving up early doses of Zing Zing and others, before impressing with serious salsa.

Soxxy started off with raga (Ready or Not) before picking up his passion – ‘special’ local music. The sounds of Sikilizeni, Double Double Portion, Adamu Na Eva as well as Kivevelo and Sudu had everyone discovering the village dancer in them. The latter was actually 'voted' song of the night, and repeated later on for good measure! Like a true married superstar (sic!), DJ Moz checked in past midnight and went on to thrill for all of an hour, straddling genres like only Moz can.

Worth mentioning that soon after, he was the pastor delivering a powerful ‘sermon’ on long life.

The night could not be complete without performances by some of Gospel’s more impressive youngsters. Crunk-head Holy Dave was backed by Eternal MC’s Dice on Whatever Man and Not A Joke. Mr. Vee, who’s been missing in action for quite a bit was on point with the hit song Busy as well as a new lingala jam, Go. MOG’s Tony, Kenti & Boss were also present, as usual electrifying the gig with the ‘toka dance’. Oh, and dance groups DICE and Saintz owned the dancing floor for a few minutes too, outdoing themselves with impressive moves.

The rave ended as energetic as it started, albeit an hour earlier that the expected 6 am, with DJs Sanch and Celeb wrapping up. If the turn-out and the obvious fun revelers had at this K-Rave is anything to go by, K-Krew should stop with the disappearing acts and ensure the gig is more regular!
