31 December, Parklands Baptist – In a year that was packed with some rather memorable gigs (check out our Top 5), the annual end of year display that is TSO had a high bar to reach. It did not disappoint. With 26 artists and three DJs on call, set-up fit for an international concert, an adoring crowd of youngsters and awe-inspiring fireworks displays, there was certainly no better way to ‘jump into’ 2009.
In what has now become custom for TSO, there were two points of action, both jam-packed – Club Xpressions, for DJs and dancing, and the Live Performance stage, where K-Krew paraded some of the nation’s top acts all night. From Mercy Wairegi to Rachel and MOG to international biggie Jal, there was no shortage of entertainment. MC Juliani did an excellent job of steering the night, never once losing his revving power.
By way of stand-outs, Eunice Njeri and Kanjii showed why they were easily Gospel’s biggest acts in 2008. The former led a close to hour-long worship session, starting off with her two hit jams, Umeniweza and Bwana Yesu and including some popular praise jams in the mix. Kanjii’s set included Astar and the Mavuno Worship Project, Under the Rock proving a favorite as always.
The night’s top surprise was certainly when Kanjii invited on stage the other members of Milele, Kaima Mwiti and Mwaura for Sanjo Lama. From the response they received, Milele is still held fondly in the hearts of their Kenyan fans. Others who impressed were Hip Hope, Maximum Melodies and Zaidi ya Mziki, the latter opting (quite successfully) to pull out the oldies from Gospel Fathers' debut album, and Jogg C’s timeless Nampenda Bwana.
The count-down at TSO was something of an interesting experience. With power going off just a few minutes to midnight, it was done in darkness, the night lighted only by thousands of cell-phones waving in the air. Oh, and the amazing fireworks soon after! A few minutes after the cross-over was done, revelers were treated to more of the fireworks, this time to celebrate the launch of K-Krew’s radio station, 91.1 Power Radio.
The fourth edition of Totally Sold Out was a fitting cap to the year, and one hopes the Kubamba Krew family will keep earnestly at it. If for nothing else, for the thousands of young people who find in them a positive alternative to popular culture.

6"the fullness of God" at Wednesday, 21 January 2009 10:33
seeing the above pictures makes me very happy and excited. for a long time christian things or functions have been shunned by many even the ones who proclaim the gospel of Christ. this was a complete metamorphosis of that scepter. this year God has promised many things among them is, we are going to accomplish the fullness of God and also a year of quantum reap. this will only be achieved through us being changed and transformed in the word of God to not only acquire the character of Christ but to become one with Him in spirit, in words and even in deed. sit under the wisdom of the bible.
