Put on your 70's gear, unpack all the old church moves you can remember and then press play on Vickie Winans’ latest chart-topper. How I Got Over is not only the title track to Vickie’s upcoming album, but is also a happy personal testimony of how she made it, not stopping at the swing but incorporating some refreshing contemporary flavor from Tim Bowman Jnr.

Coming back from a three-year hiatus, Vickie Winans returns with this 11-track album released on her own label, Divine Joy Records. The anthology, her 14th in a career spanning some 18 years and 14 Grammy nods, is a pleasant mixture of old and contemporary styles, telling her testimony of the past two years.

The yet-to-be-released track listing features Tye Tribett on the acclaimed dance song, Heyyy, while the deeply moving Release It leads the pack of ballads on the record. The album is self-produced and is being described as a ‘well blended collage of traditional and urban contemporary songs that will prove to be her best yet’.  How I Got Over is Vickie’s second release on her new label since she broke up with Verity Records in 2006.

That break-up and losing her mum were personal hardships that provided fodder for this latest work. Vickie says the album is her way of looking back and thanking God for making it over:

"God has been good to me," and "I will give Him all the praise. He’s stayed with me and held me up when I couldn’t hold up myself. There are so many great things happening that I just have to say that it’s because of God that I made it over."

The album is set for release on 25th August 2009.

I like the entire CD. Track number two is so powerful. It speaks to so many of us who are going through challenges in life.

"Timmie", you continue to make me proud of you.

Vickie, this is one of your better (best) projects. I am very proud of you. Stay focused and God will continue to bless and keep you in His care. Always remember, it is all about Him. Sing so that God gets the glory and all will be well and pleasing in His sight.
Love,
Auntie
