To celebrate this occasion, we caught up with Holy Dave for a candid interview on a wide range of things concerning his music, and here we go:

Mwafrika.com: Wsup man! First things first - the album launch we were all waiting for. What happened?
Holy Dave
: Wassup. Well, let me start by apologizing to my supporters for postponing the album. Honestly, things haven’t been that easy for me considering I have no recording deal and I’m not signed to any record label. The uphill task of being the artiste, the manager and the financier has not been easy. To me a good album includes some very nicely produced songs, some nice interludes, a good design on the cover and inlay among other things. I also think several selected singles from the album should have some hot videos to create a nice awareness of the product. I tried to do all this by August but it was overwhelming so I had to postpone the album release.

M: Your fans are obviously a tad disappointed at the turn of events?
H
: Yeah they must be disappointed but I would like to tell them that something bigger and better is coming very soon.

M: Ok, so what's the plan now? Are we going to see the album launch some other time or you've turned your focus to other things?
H
: Most definitely! The album is still coming out. Nothing has changed. I believe it’s going to be even hotter now since I have more time to add some stuff and release a few singles and videos in preparation.

M: Tell us about the new single, Bounce Back..
H
: I call my new style “Hype-Hop or Energy Music”. It’s quite witty and full of energy. The new single is called “Bounce Back” and it is one of my favorite songs in the album. It talks about getting back up when you find yourself on the floor. You don’t need to be too hard on yourself, falling is part of life and there is hope after falling, just get back up move on.

“Siwezi go down, niko immune ha! Na bounce back kaa Amos Kimu nya!”

It is produced by the renowned Ben “Gittx” Gitau and it is a taste of the upcoming album.

M: Do you feature anyone on the track?
H
: I have not featured anyone on this song. I know my recent collabos have been huge successes but “Even though I walk” and “Whatever man” (two of my biggest songs) were solo projects and they were equally successful also. This is just yet another taste of Holy Dave, the solo artiste.

M: Are we looking at a video sometime soon?
H
: Yes sir! The Bounce Back video is coming out soon. After this interview I have a meeting with my video producer to work on the script and logistics.

ImageM: Cool. You've been busy doing a host of other things, let's talk about them for a moment. How is Mad Love Lounge going?
H
: Madlove Lounge is doing great man. I can proudly say that the Urban Arts Culture (Hip-hop, Spoken Word, Poetry) has grown over the last two or so years. It’s been a pleasure to host the Madlove Lounge sessions from month to month and I have witnessed artiste grow at Madlove Lounge and turn into household names.

M: Any special plans with Mad Love?
H
: We plan on getting on radio so that we can have a monthly lounge and a weekly radio station to support various urban art forms in a Christian environment as our vision suggests. We have started a pure Hip-hop event titled “Kingdom Hip-hop” as an expansion technique. This will cater for the Hip-hop heads in Kenya and it will run along with the monthly Madlove Lounge event. Big up to my boy Jefro Mose Katai, Dj GG and Dj Shock for spearheading the Christian Hip-hop culture in Kenya. We also have the Madlove Mixtape Volume 1 out featuring more than 15 Spoken word, Hip-hop and Poetry artistes.

M: You had talked about a Volume 2 of the MLL Mixtape. That coming up anytime soon?
H
: Yeah the Madlove Mixtape Volume 1 is getting a good response. We are trying to beat our sales target and after that we will contact our large number of artistes to see who will be part of the Madlove Mixtape Volume 2.

M: Your two collabos with Eko Dydda and Joey have totally caught the attention of holy hip-hop lovers. Were you surprised?
H
: I was surprised about the song “Breakthrough” that I did with Joey because like “Even though I walk” it’s not the usual sound and I thought people wouldn’t really relate but I got shocked at the response we got. It’s a personal favorite for many of my supporters, especially the ladies, lol. Let me make a confession. When we were recording the song “Niko na reason” with Eko Dydda I could feel the energy and stuff but honestly I didn’t know the song would be this big. To see it getting played on Crossover, Re-up, Stomp, Straight Up, Off the hook, Homeboyz radio, Power radio, Radio Waumini, Ghetto Radio, Capital fm and many other places  in the first 2 months is a huge shocker.

M: What would you attribute that to?
H
: As Njugush says “It’s Jesus”. Shout out to Othole of N.Y.N.P for the hot beat and everyone else who was part of the songs production, Xpose ENT, Sakata Media and Kijiji Records. I want this song to open doors for Eko Dydda, for me and for the hundreds of upcoming artistes who  have been lied to that Christian Hip-hop cannot be as big as Daddy Owen’s “System ya Kapungala” and Jimmy Gait's “Muhadhara”

M: Good stuff man. Any final words?
H
: I cannot explain the good things that are happening to me and to people around me. Others might egotistically take the glory but I humbly say…”It’s Jesus”. I’d like to thank everyone for supporting me and hundreds of other Christian artistes who are doing a good job. At the end of the year “2000 and Mine” I’d like guys to view me as a role model in the society and not as a successful musician. I’m not perfect but God is using what I have and what I am to make an impact in the society. We’re living by faith, taking each day as it comes so don’t be too hard on yourself. Try, try again and again and when you fall down...get up and “Bounce Back”, it’s never too late. God bless. The swagger continues…
