Multi Stellar-Award winner and PAJAM front-man J. Moss is back, this time as Just James on his junior project, V3. Moss comes from a two-year recording hiatus with an album being described as the most introspective and personal musical offering of his career.
The 10-track V3: Just James finds Moss looking inside and dealing candidly with the heavy issues of repentance and restoration that he’s had to personally go through. The album’s lead single, Restored, summarizes this message, talking about the mercy and redemptive power of God. Moss sings openly about being healed, delivered and restored, a message that anyone who’s ever fallen and risen can relate to.
The testimony of redemption continues on the lovesong So Into You as well as Rebuild. Musically, Moss brings out his trademark urban sound on the danceable I Gave It Up, which starts the album off on a happy note but is no less heavy lyrically. In the same bag falls No More (a template PDA production a la Let It Go on V2), as well as the infectious God Happens, a beautifully wrapped reminder that even in the middle of a fall, God still comes through.
Moss’ exceptional vocal ability comes to the fore on Anointing, a jazz oriented worship solo, as well as his rendition of Sweet Jesus. Holy One, on the other hand, is a church-skewed production that will easily find its way into many worship gatherings. But it’s the title track, Just James, that is likely to be the heart stealer. It rounds off the album with such excellent production and profound lyricism that you can’t help but feel Moss to the core. Sample this: "I’m not one to make excuses… to place the blame on others… to take the easy way out; I’m just a man trying to do the best he can…take my hand and understand, I’m human…I’m just james…"
V3: Just James releases on August 25.
