August 23, PCEA Kahawa Farmers - Stories are scripted, stories are told and sometimes stories are forgotten. A story is as good its impact to the audience. This time round, it was ‘the greatest story ever told’, a display of drama and dance by one of Gospel’s most celebrated groups, Ignitaz. They narrated, sang and danced as they told a moving story of love, betrayal and forgiveness.
It had all the nuggets of a Nollywood picture; passion, loyalty and conflict. The story, like the classic Romeo and Juliet, revolved around two lovebirds. The narrator and protagonist was a man called Ephroditus, who loses his love, Biafra, after he is incriminated, convicted and sentenced to hang for a crime he did not commit.
As fate would have it, on the day of his hanging, lightening strikes the hangman, giving him an opportunity to escape and confuse his accusers along the way. They bury the hangman thinking it’s Ephroditus, leaving him to flee to America. Many years later, he returns to independent Kenya and coincidentally meets with his long lost love, Biafra.
‘The Greatest story’ is told when Euphroditus tells them about a man he met when he was living in exile, Jesus Christ. How he came to fall in love with him, and how he found new meaning in His existence. The story ends in this amazing re-union & message of the cross. Peppered with captivating and funny drama as well as smoothly choreographed dance segments, the story had the audience captivated for all of two hours! Yet there was more – performances from a whole stack of artists sandwiched the drama, making for a wholesome afternoon of entertainment and ministry. Being an Ignitaz event, dance was the staple, with the well known Saintz and recent winners of KTN’s Can You Dance competition 3:16 thrilling with commendable choreography.
The vocally gifted Sarah Mitaru was on set, backed by a live band that included her producer husband, David “Blackman” Muthami. Others included Sakata’s new kid on the block, Kris as well as MOG and Daddy Owen. The latter two carried the day as far as performances were concerned, even holding the show in the face of an unexpected black out.
Like all good stories, this one had a great end. The kind that if you cared to listen, to respond and to live accordingly, you actually get to live happily ever after. Some Dance To Start Off
