MOG Launch 'Something To Say' | Print |  E-mail

August 29,Mavuno Dome – After many weeks, nay, many months of anticipation, hesitation and preparation, MOG finally launched their debut album, Something To Say. It was by no means a small affair, giving massive credit to the somewhat dazzling story that has been MOG - from an obscure boys group to one of the industry’s biggest names. The trio of Tony, Kenti and Boss did not disappoint their legion of fans as they dropped hit by hit, beat by beat, minute by minute.

Backed by Ignitaz for most jams, it was more of a dancing than singing affair. But hey, no-one was complaining. After all, the Zing Zing boy’s genre, dancehall raga, emphasizes more on body movement than vocal prowess. Their first set opened with a new jam, Rise Up, switching later to Boom and the Tempted Remix. An interesting collabo was in the offing when Eunice Njeri lent her vocals on one of their new tracks, Macho.

Other dance-inducers on their heavy repertoire included the song that catapulted them to stardom Zing Zing, still a hit several years later, as well as Someday, Utamu and of course, their most recent scorcher, Go. Other artists to gracing the stage included Kevo Yout, Allan Aaron and Monique as well as Walson and Mr. V of the Busy fame. Saints, Ignitaz and XYZ represented the dance side of things, as usual drawing wild cheers from the gig goers.

But the launch wasn’t all dancing and hype. One of the highlights of the evening was certainly when Boss and Tony gave their life stories – moving accounts of how God rescued them from the jaws of poverty and death to musicians of national repute. Their stories provide the fodder for their music, and if their launch afternoon was anything to go by, MOG certainly have ‘something to say’ for themselves, and will be saying it for a while yet!
