Once again, it's time to celebrate Gospel music with one of the industry's highly anticipated annual compilations! The 2009 (and now seventh) edition of Verity Records’ Gotta Have Gospel series was released on the 8th of September. Gotta Have Gospel 7 features the who’s who in Gospel music, and is choc-full of award winners, their award winning songs, and the hits and hit-seekers of 2008/2009.
Gospel mainstay Kirk Franklin gets an early appearance on Disc 1 with the urban groove I Like Me which features Da’ T.R.U.T.H, as do Mary Mary and Kierra ‘Kiki’ Sheard on God In Me. Deitrick Haddon’s Revealed album contributes the worshipful I Need Your Help, while multiple award winner Israel Houghton gets a nod in the right direction with the inclusion of Just Wanna Say off his recent solo record, The Power of One.
The praise and worship mode continues with vocal powerhouses like Cece Winans, Dorinda Clark-Cole and Jonathan Nelson. The latter checks in with the church-popular Right Now Praise, before giving way to Alvin Slaughter with Mighty Praise.
Though not as new as most of the jams on this compilation, J.Moss’ Afraid gets a well deserved entry, with his PAJAM Records’ 21:03 contributing Time For A Change, off their latest record, Total Attention. Other artists on the anthology include Dave Hollister, Tye Tribett & G.A. as well as Donald Lawrence, Byron Cage and one of Gospel's most successful acts in recent times, Marvin Sapp.
The 26-track album also includes videos for Mary Mary’s God In Me and Donnie McClurkins The Great I Am.
