With the Kenyan Gospel Industry growing at an alarming rate, Fullhouse Music is getting set to host Kenya’s first Gospel Hip-hop competition titled “The Break” on 19th December at Charter Hall. The aim of this talent search is to promote the hip-hop culture and to give upcoming hip-hop artistes a platform to showcase their skill.

After receiving hundreds of applications the registration forms have been evaluated and the 20 contestants to battle it out at ‘The Break’ have been chosen. The contestants come from different hoods, churches, high schools and colleges around Nairobi so we urge people to come out and support their own. The competition will involve 5 rounds of battles. During each round, each contestant will be expected to rap 16 bars (an estimate of 45 seconds).

As the judges consider the contestants to proceed to the next level we will have performances from several hip-hop artistes and dance crews including Eko Dydda, Kamlesh, X-po, MC Dice, Amason, Big Jack, Holy Dave, Saintz Crew and Shrink Crew. The judges include Michelle (Kijiji Records), Jefro (of Madlove Lounge) and Denis Wayesu (artiste manager and event organizer).

Some of the aspects the judges will be looking out for are creativity, articulation and confidence among a list of other things. The event will be hosted by Mr. T, Dj GG, Dj Shock and Dj riQ. The winner will walk away with a recording deal (Fully sponsored album). He or she should expect his/her first single to hit the airwaves by the end of January and his/her album to come out by the end of 2010.

Make a date with "The Break" on Saturday, 19th December 2009 at Charter Hall. Tickets are 200 bob at the gate and 100 bob advance with the latter available at Fullhouse studios (Hurlingham), Lounge Net Cyber (Norwich Union House) and Webtouch Cyber (Queensway House).
