After a phenomenal season where Marvin Sapp rewrote Gospel's record books, the singer-songwriter returns for another stub at success with his eighth solo album, Here I Am. The lead single, The Best In Me, has already made a splash on the Gospel charts, and matched the 2008 Billboard peak for Sapp's ground-breaking hit, Never Would Have Made It, in addition to registering the largest jump on the charts (#78 - #14 Hot R&B/Hot Songs Chart) among all genres in four years! With it's splendid songwriting, this may very well be the next biggest Gospel tune. Check out the chorus:
“He saw the best in me, when every one else around me, only saw the worst in me/ He’s mine, And I’m His and it doesn’t matter what I did, He only sees me for who I am”
The album's title track is another stand-out, which Sapp admits speaks to him of the pressure of standing in difficult circumstances over the last few years. He Has His Hands On You, written by Stan Jones and the truly refreshing Fresh Wind, penned by Jonathan Dunn are some of the album's favorites. The record features production by Aaron Lindsey, with vocal direction being provided by Myron Butler.
In 2009, Marvin Sapp achieved crossover fame with the release of Never Would Have Made It from the album Thirsty. The mega-selling hit held down the #1 slot at Gospel radio for almost a full year; and was a top-selling ringtone and ringback, and propelled Thirsty to the top of the gospel charts for 27 weeks. Sapp went ahead to win every Gospel Stellar Award that he was nominated for.
Here I Am looks set to afford him just as much, if not greater, success.
