Groove Tour In Nairobi | Print |  E-mail

March 18, KICC - Finally, the Groove tour landed in Nairobi after its much hyped tours of Mombasa and Kisumu. True to expectation, the event did not disappoint, with electric live performances from Groove nominees including the likes of Juliani, Daddy Owen and his crew, Jimmie Gait as well as the much famed pair of Holy Dave and Eko Dydda.

Thanks to the fact that the event was free, and smack in the middle of the city center, the event was packed way beyond capacity. Thankfully, despite the constant fights and rowdy crowds the event was well organized and the Kenyan police and event security did a splendid job in crowd control.

The afternoon’s highlights included Juliani’s set, as well as the join up with Alemba and DJ Sadic for Pages za Bible. Hot from an important win at the CHAT awards, Eko Dydda delivered memorably, and had the crowd singing and dancing along to his As For Me And My House jam. Ragga outfit MOG and hip-hop artist nominee Hey-Z also graced the stage as did dancers Saintz, to the delight of the thousands of young people who'd flocked the KICC's front court.

To crown it all, Daddy Owen, the star performer of the event, livened up the Nairobi air with favorites Hafungi Macho, Kiriro as well as Tobina. With a star cast including Dunco, Ngashville, Allan Aaron, Nyash and Kerah, it was ‘system ya kapungala’ all the way.

It was only after the DJs, led by K-Krew frontman Dj Moz and Mfalme finalist DJ Mo, turned off the music that the crowd decided to head home. It had been a great opportunity to see just what this year’s Groove Awards (May 1st, KICC) will be honoring in terms of Gospel talent.
