September 18, NPC Karen - Six months of preparation, a 200-strong choir, venue and overflow tents packed beyond capacity, and you have yourself an unforgettable night of worship - AFLEWO (Africa Let's Worship) 2010 was everything you would expect of an event now in its 7th year. In keeping with the mood of the night, the event kicked off with prayers from various pastors and ALEWO founder Timothy Kaberia. They led this massive, interdenominational congregation in a united prayer for Africa, Kenya, the new constitution, our government and even for those attending.
Thereafter, it was all praise and worship. Standing with arms high in surrender, worshippers both in the sanctuary and the overflow tents joined the resplendent choir in singing along to new songs and dancing to familiar praise verses. There was even a new way to shout - HAIYE! From the song Yeye Ni Mwema. Notably, a little reggae beat was added to Blessed Be Your Name. What creativity and anointing!
Being the 7th anniversary of AFLEWO, various forerunners and pioneers were honored. The list ranged from music producers, singers, and worship leaders to songwriters. Among those honored were Pete Odera, Rachel Atieno, Reuben Kigame and the Kassangas. Sharing the vision, Kaberia thanked God for the tremendous progress witnessed so far. In his words, "A month ago we'd say God be glorified in provinces/districts/locations...but now God is being glorified in countries!"
And with that, the music continued. The Nigerians proved that there’s more to their populous nation that Afro Cinema with the King's Choral Voices taking the stage at 2 am. With sweet voices and just a keyboard they performed to numerous standing ovations and ululations from the crowd. Switching from hymns to songs for Africa, some done in native Nigeria languages, they capped their performance with the Nigerian National Anthem.
The AFLEWO choir came back on, freshly rejuvenated, to lead everyone in singing away the rest of the night. No matter where it found you, indoors or outdoors the praise and worship left you totally abandoned in God's presence...An unforgettable night indeed.
Watch out for more of AFLEWO in other Kenyan towns such as Nyeri and even beyond our borders; Dar-el-salaam, Rwanda and other African cities. The AFLEWO Choir Looking Good

The pic with the caption "Mrs. Kassanga Picks Up One" does not actually show mrs Kassanga. The people in the pic are from left: Mr. Kaberia, Rev. Jackie, Rev Grace. Both Revs are Aflewo Patrons. The choir is seen in the background.
