November 14, St Andrews - Having shot to fame with the success of her chart-topping single, 11th Hour, Betty Bayo’s star shone even brighter this weekend with the launch of her sophomore album, Siyabonga. In an afternoon of praise and worship family style, the 22-year old lass was joined by a litany of top artists as she added another cap to her musical career.

Siyabonga, meaning ‘Thank You’, was more literal than metaphoric. Recounting her musical journey and thanksgiving to all and sundry, Betty Bayo got on stage to a live performance of 11th Hour, to the elation of the audience. She then weaved her way through powerful performances of popular jams like Highway, Muduwereri, Jemedari and Siyabonga. It was evident that her music did not need an official launch for her audience to be familiar with it - most people knew each song word for word and sang along heartily.

Her musical mentor, Esther Wahome, was also in the house and threw down a great show, alongside Groove Award winners Eunice Njeri, Emmy Kosgei and Hey-Z. Other artistes on the afternoon roster included Rosy Ohon, Mr. V and Carol Nyce as well as Mercy Wairegi. Dj Mo and Sadic kept the decks warm, while their System Unit fellow Alemba mc-ed.

Save for a few hitches with the sound equipment, the event was next to perfect, an album launch befitting one of the fastest rising Gospel stars.

at 22 with 2 lvly albums, your are worth the hype. you are one of the few artists who deliver a vernacular track (save for emmy) that trascends language. we just need to improve our album launches. how do they do it in places that they get it right?
