February 13, Memorial Park - Valentine’s was observed in special hip-hop fashion this year, as Mad Love Lounge dedicated its first edition of 2011 to honoring the ladies. In true Mad Love fashion, ‘Sheriously’ turned out to be not only a refreshingly fun afternoon, but also a buoyous opener for 2011 Gospel gigs.

The weather didn’t matter, at least not for fans of Mad Love Lounge.  They came, danced, sung, had fun and left, most of them still wet from the rain that dispelled the afternoon sun.  The performing cast for this edition was strictly female (or for the female), and the MCs, DJs and artists proved their worth without a doubt.

One of spoken word’s top female acts Specifyed was on the performance list as were new acts Nzilani, Butterfly and Malaika. Others were Charity, Mwende and Elness, the latter giving what many observers termed a ‘rousing’ performance of the day. Mercy Wairegi made a guest appearance at the gig and did a superb job of worship.

The men weren’t left behind either, but their sets had to be ‘for the ladies’. Xpo and BMF stepped up to the challenge to the delight of their audience, as did Shira, Gerriey Wainana and Number 8. On the decks, DJs Kandee and Shock kept the crowd moving with hot mixes, while Jasmeen and Doreen were in their element as they steered the event as the day’s MCs.

Though the rain brought the gig to a premature end, it was certainly a great start for Mad Love 2011!
