September 30, KICC - Juliani was voted the overall winner at this year's Kisima Awards, picking the Artist of the Year statuette and its accompanying prize money of Sh. 1 million. He beat off strong competition from secular acts Jaguar, Maddtraxx and Kidum. Juliani also bagged the Gospel Artist of the Year award, as well as beat off a field of contestants that included his former outfit Ukoo Flani to the Hip-hop Artist  of the Year award, both for his hit single, Bahasha Ya Ocampo

MOG and Mr Seed also caused an upset, winning the Collaboration of the Year category ahead of secular favorites Wahu & Bobby Wine, while BMF walked away with the Most Promising Artist statuette. As expected, the Benga Artist award went to Mbuvi for Kwata Kawaya, while Kevoh Yout bagged the Reggae award. This year marks the first time a Gospel artist has ever wallked away with the top prize at Kisima, and represents overall the best showing ever by Gospel artists since the awards were initiated a decade ago.
