Swahili for “forever; never ending” Milele is a non-profit religious corporation comprised of four Kenyan young men who have taken music to be their tool of ministry. Their mission is to empower lives and to draw people to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Recognizing the immense power inherent in music, Milele have a very eclectic range of genres infused with African sounds and rhythms.
Milele – Kanjii, Kaima, Christian and Harry – have known each other for more than twenty years, having initially met as little children in Kenya , East Africa. They surprisingly reconnected in 1998 in Los Angeles after coming to further their education. After catching up on each other's lives and realizing that they had a lot in common (particularly music), they decided to start singing together as a weekend pastime. This singing gradually became more serious, as invitations to churches around the Los Angeles area began trickling in.
In the past few years, Milele averaged about 150 concerts and performances annually, mainly at churches and schools. Some of these include Lake Avenue Church , Faith Community Church , Mariners Church, Bel'Air Presbyterian Church, La Canada Presbyterian Church, Cottonwood Christian Center, First Church of the Nazarene, Pasadena, Azusa Pacific University, Claremont School of Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary, and Biola University. They have also shared the same stage with such Gospel legends as Andrae Crouch and Helen Baylor.
Having attended mission schools in Kenya , Milele has a real heart for mission programs, leading them to participate in a host of charity work. They've had the privilege of working with such organizations as Union Rescue Mission, Los Angeles Mission, and World Vision International and have partnered with five other organizations, aiding in the area of fund development. Milele makes at least one mission trip per year back to their home country of Kenya. 2001 included numerous performances around the United States as well as a visit to Nyumbani, an AIDS Orphanage in Kenya. They held a special concert in the slums and also performed to over 30,000 young people at a stadium concert. In early 2002, they had a special concert dubbed ‘True Love Waits,' which was geared towards promoting abstinence in a society that is being crippled by AIDS. Kanjii of Milele was quoted saying,
“We saw the success of our efforts when many young people committed their lives to waiting for the partner that God has set aside for them.”
In summer 2003, Milele toured forty states across the US to promote their second album. Since their successful Level Up tour, they were the featured band at the “Blessings of the Shoes” interfaith service at the Orange County AIDS Walk, which drew over 10,000 people. Shortly after, they were nominated to be one of the top ten finalists of the 95.9FM Fish Festival award. These successes culminated in their first live recording concert at Mariners Church in Irvine , California which was also their kickoff for their 2004 summer tour. Milele Ministries, Inc., a registered Non-profit Corporation, has a vision to buy homes in Nairobi, Kenya to house, nurture and cater for part of the four million children orphaned by the AIDS pandemic that has devastated Sub-Saharan Africa. Christian, a member of Milele, says: “We are honored and humbled by the fact that God has chosen us to sing praise and glorify His name.” Milele is a God-run operation: for Him and by Him. It is our mission to “Go and make disciples of all nations, to love and care for the disenfranchised and the poor.” And as God promised, “He will be with us to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:19-20).” To contact Milele, or support their ministry, reach them at:
