In a market where many of the more established theatre companies are finding it tough to keep patrons trickling in though their doors, Sterling Quality Entertainment seems to be soaring. Having attracted over 8,000 theatre patrons to the Kenya National Theatre in the last year alone, every project they touch seems to turn into gold.

Seasoned television and theatre writer, director and producer Paul Oyier serves as both co-founder and chief executive of Sterling Quality Entertainment. Having participated in several successful projects, he now works as a freelance English newscaster with Regional Reach Broadcasting Ltd., the owners of Kameme FM 101.1, and is also engaged as a correspondent with the English desk of the French news agency, Agence France-Presse (AFP), in Nairobi .

Along with co-founders Peter Oyier and Steve Kiura, they established the organization in May 2005. With over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry between the three gentlemen, a brief perusal through a listing of part of their industry projects adds significance credence to their status as market leaders.

    * Tazama! TV Series (Vivid Features/Medeva Television)
    * Heart & Soul (East African Television Soap Series)
    * True Love Waits Kenya Launch
    * Keep It Real (Ukweli Video Productions Talk Show)
    * Promise of Love (Good News Productions)
    * Tough Choices (Good News Productions)
    * The ESARO Project (UNICEF-Kenya Office)
    * Karanja (Ukweli Video Productions Television Film)

The company's memorable production of the world-famous Rodgers & Hammerstein II, musical, “The Sound of Music”, as well as production of the critically-acclaimed South African musical, “Sarafina!” earned the organization rave reviews in both Kenyan and international press. In addition they scooped the title of “Best Entertainment Company” from Metro Television in 2003.

Their performance of “Sarafina!”, was graced by the author himself, Mr. Mbongeni Ngema, and his wife and star actress, Mrs. Leleti Khumalo Ngema. This was without doubt a great honor, and a reassuring vote of confidence in the vision laid out by the founders of the company as regards the development of a sustainable and professional entertainment industry in Kenya and the region. The Government of Kenya also lent its support through the presence of the Minister for Gender, Sports, Culture & Social Services, Hon. Najib Balala, and the Chairman of the Kenya Cultural Centre, Dr. Walter Abung'u.

December 2003 saw Sterling Quality team up with KORA award-winning Kenyan musician, Eric Wainaina, in producing his first musical “LWANDA, Man of Stone”. The production received rave reviews from the Kenyan press, and again honored by celebrity, this time in the form of Mrs. Deloris Jordan, the mother of retired basketball star, Michael Jordan.

But to be fair to Sterling Quality, they are far more than just a theatre troupe. Through partnerships with various corporate sponsors, they produce high quality branded entertainment events, as well as the conceptualization, origination, writing and editing for theater, events, television, film and music productions – not to mention the sales, distribution, promotion and merchandising of the same.

In addition, they provide quality entertainment-based business solutions for Kenya 's leading brands, companies, schools, non-governmental organizations and government departments.

Talent management is also a big part of their services. They represent and source for creative and technical talent in the fields of television, theatre, music, publishing, new media and commercials. They are also involved in corporate communications consulting, where they help organizations build their corporate image through effective use of entertainment-based communication tools, ranging from publications to corporate videos and events.

They state their vision as thus:

“To be the leading media and entertainment company in East Africa, and among the premier concerns in Africa, in terms of quality, profitability and growth, by delivering quality world-class entertainment-based products and business solutions”
