21st October, 2007 @ Barizi

Do you want the perfect recipe for an afternoon of fun as you unwind? Try this remedy: Put together the latest positive tunes, talented visual and verbal artists, and a keyed-up crowd. Mix them in a top-class venue and eureka! You have Mad Love Lounge, a platform where young Christians can convene to sample positive entertainment, which includes poetry and spoken word, song, dance among other artistic forms of expression.

The first edition of this meant-to-be-weekly event was held on 21st October 2007 at Barizi Restaurant in the uptown Yaya Center area. An enthusiastic crowd gathered early at the venue, and were kept entertained by DJs Crowbar and GG, who seamlessly supplied track after another off the turn-tables.

A little after 3pm, Kisima nominee Holy Dave took to the podium to kick things off, inviting Mad Love Lounge founder Chiko Nkhoma to give a brief overview of the event. That done with, it was time to get into the serious stuff.

Holy Dave headlined the day's performances, and sent his audience into a frenzy when he began showcasing his rapping skills. Everyone cheered and shouted as the crunk star did what he knows best. The standard thus set, upcoming rapper Xpo took to the mic and kept the pace up. His freestyling rap left no doubt that he will soon be a force to reckon with.

Rap group Rachel, followed and elevated the mood higher with their crunk track, Song Number One. They were followed by a variety of upstart artistes who included Street Disciple, Tony Clove, Izzo and Druid. They gave brief freestyle performances before local Gospel's mainstays Wernono Family, served the audience with a tantalizing performance of the song Beba Msalaba.

Other acts who graced the open mic session were Blessed Mic, MOD, Crystal and Gifted. The crowd got a chance to savor the raw talent that bubbles from the untapped artistes.

There was also a section of the performance where dancers got a chance to display their talent. Dashy Dancers' affiliate member, Kama, opened the session with a body-titling jig that delighted the audience. AGE and Jathan also got a chance to exhibit their amusing dance manouvers.

This Is How We Do...

It's A Party In Here.

Don't Try This At Home!

Despite Mad Love Lounge being a free engagement, a minimal crowd turned up. The event was however a rousing affair, save for a few disturbing dry periods in the middle of performances. However, Mad Love Lounge will easily outgrow its teething problems and become an event of spiritual fulfillment and a stream where thirsty entertainment lovers come and drink to their fill. Watch out for the next edition!
