There is a sensational UK-based Nigerian gospel group bursting onto the Gospel scene in foreign territory and causing significant ripples while at it. Meet Four Kornerz, an exciting band made up of four sibling brothers who are quickly rising up the UK music industry and winning approbation as a result of their stunning vocals and talented musicianship, not to mention their with their energetic stage presentations. The group is made up of Deji, 24, the eldest (lead vocals), TJ, 22, (keyboards / vocals) who acts as the production master of the group, Vidal, 20, (drums and vocals) and Daniel, 18, (second lead/percussions). Four Kornerz’ music appeals to a wide-cross section of listeners as a result of their diverse musical influences. They’ve embraced the sounds of Neo-Soul, Jazz, Funk, Rock, R&B and traditional Nigerian rhythms from their homeland. The start of their meteoric rise up the UK industry music ladder has already seen them pick up their first award – a Best Group Newcomer 2004 at the Gospel Entertainment Music (GEM) Awards. The band was also invited by BBC Radio London (Dec 2004) to sing live Christmas Carols, both acoustic and unplugged, as voted by the station’s listeners. The year 2001 saw the brothers impress with a win in the Back To The Future Challenge Quest song contest. They followed this up in 2002 with another big win, this time around at the TalkGospel.com’s Newcomers’ Competition, before getting to the London Heats 2003 final of the national TV talent competition GMTV Gospel Challenge. Four Kornerz have also been featured on MTV’s TRL as part of The Fighting Temptations Movie Special.
The brothers released their debut gospel single, Clap Clap on UBI Music, the prestigious UK label that signed them. Clap Clap went on to receive massive acclamations from various top UK music publications including Blues & Soul, Touch, and I-DJ. Others included Cross. Rhythms, and Live Listings, and the single also went on to receive Record of the Week honors at both Choice FM and BBC 1Xtra. The soulful house remix of Clap Clap gained top five positions on various international house charts. Clap Clap, a mid to up-tempo neo-soul grove with a touch of jazz and a sprinkling of R&B was nominated for 3 awards during the 2006 Oasis Awards, UK’s premier gospel awards. They included Best Group, Best Gospel Song and Best Packaged CD. The single features three very exciting mixes by Spirit Led, Steve Anthony (from South African group Blacksmith) featuring Jahaziel, and a soulful house mix by Each 2 their own. At the heart of FourKornerz is the motivation to be a positive influence through their music and lifestyle. They have, as a result, supported various charity initiatives such as Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Africans Unite Against Child Abuse, and Soul in the City, as well as African Caribbean Leukemia Trust, African Children’s Association and the British Telecom Tsunami Appeal, amongst others. They have also participated in the recording remake of Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water for Hands Across The Sea in aid of the victims of the hurricane struck Caribbean areas (2004). Musically influenced by their father’s love for all things Classical and Jazz, along with their strong family upbringing and firm Church foundation, all this has poised this group to take their exciting inspirational flow to the four corners of the world.
